Welcome to Found in the Forest Youth Theatre! We are a vibrant, creative theatre group based in the heart of the Forest of Dean at The Wesley, Cinderford. Our mission is to provide young people with the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their skills in the Performing Arts. We offer weekly classes for 8-12 and 13-18 year olds. We welcome all abilities from complete beginners to experienced performers. Our weekly classes are designed to help young people develop their confidence communication and performance skills as well as providing a safe and supportive environment to explore the world through theatre. We make shows, create characters, script write, devise and play to make exciting new theatre.
In just 5 days, FITF participants brought THE BFG to life on stage in the heart of the forest. Participants dove headfirst into the whimsical world of Giant Country, where dreams were bottled, snozzcumbers were the snack of choice, and friendship knows no bounds. Participants sang, learned how to juggle, learned puppetry in song in our wonderfully successful summer project. Performed at the Dean Heritage Centre July 2024.
Nestled within the ancient woodlands of the Forest of Dean lies the legend of Warren James—a tale of courage, defiance, and the enduring bond between a community and its land. Set against the backdrop of the early 19th century, “Warren James: Guardian of the Forest” transports audiences to a time of upheaval and change as the industrial revolution encroaches upon the tranquil beauty of the forest, threatening to destroy its natural riches for profit.
Local playwright Maggie Clutterbuck brought Warren James to life for FITF Youth Theatre. Performed in 2 churches in the Forest, actors got to learn about rich local history along with their performance and acting skills.
Fowl Play was a devised piece that told the story of the river Wye and how certain aspects of agriculture can impact water quality.
In the small town, the serene flow of the Wye has always been a lifeline for the community. However, the town’s idyllic charm is threatened when chicken farms set up on its outskirts. As the farm grows, so does the concern among the townspeople about the potential consequences on their beloved river.
Fowl Play challenged audiences to reflect on their own roles within larger ecological systems and consider the collective responsibility we bear for the health of our shared resources. It was performed as Wyldwood’s FOD Fringe 2024 and with the Wye Valley River Festival.
Spooked took the audience to a mysterious mansion with a dark history. Set in the past, this devised Play in a Day followed a group of curious visitors who uncover long-buried secrets and encounter ghostly figures from a forgotten era. With only hours to bring the eerie tale to life, the cast delivered an atmospheric performance full of twists, chills, and a haunting mystery.
No News told the story of a small, local newspaper that faced its biggest challenge yet when it was bought out by a large media corporation. Set against the backdrop of a tight-knit community, this devised play in a day was full of heart, humour, and resilience. The production celebrated the power of local news and the strength of community spirit.
